About

Room 243

Room 243, officially launched on Feb. 11, 2008, is a blog created and maintained by the current staff of The Temple News for university alumni who worked for TTN during their time at Temple. This content is unaffiliated to the school’s Alumni Services or other Temple University entities.

Our content is focused on news that relates to or might interest alumni of TTN, the university’s community newspaper since 1921. Its purpose is to reconnect with alumni, keep them aware of current staff trends or happenings related to their peers, in addition to offering current staff the opportunity to network with the many talented and successful graduates of The Temple News newsroom.

No longer in an old rowhouse on North Park Ave. (which is now Liacouras Walk), those headquarters have been in the Student Center at 13th and Montgomery since the late 1960s. Since it was remodeled in the 1990s, our newsroom has been Room 243. We want to welcome you all back. These are our stories.

The Temple News

The Temple News has been the paper of record for the Temple University community since it first printed as Temple University Weekly on Sept. 19, 1921. The award-winning university publication, editorially independent of Temple, now publishes every Tuesday. The Temple News sends 10,000 printed copies to the university’s five primary locations in the Delaware Valley, including Main Campus, Center City, Health Sciences, Ambler, and Tyler School of Art. In September 2007, The Temple News entered the blogsphere, launching Broad and Cecil, which focuses on news affecting the broad Temple community.

Temple University

Temple University, a comprehensive public research university that enrolls more than 34,000 students, is the 27th largest university in America and is one of the nation’s leading centers of professional education. Founded in 1884 by Dr. Russell Conwell as an informal adult-education outgrowth of his Baptist Temple ministry, Temple College was chartered in 1888 and was incorporated as Temple University in 1907.
